Master the Camera

  • Camera menu breakdown of the Canon 5D, 7D and 1D
  • Prep a camera packages and Color balance the Canons.
  • Create picture styles to get exactly the look you need.

Master the Gear

  • Build, teardown, and reconfigure rigs and follow focus systems.
  • Discuss the quirks of different still lenses as well as PV and PL mount lenses.
  • Review the common pitfalls of the cameras and how to work around them.

Master the Set

  • Prep for a location shoot.
  • Shoot in a pre-lit studio space with an actress.
  • Set up the Canon cameras on a dolly, tape out lenses and practice pulling focus at low f-stops.
  • Record, download and send to editorial using an accurate media management workflow.
  • Build a handheld configuration and set up wireless video to a director's monitor.
  • Shoot a walk and talk with an actress.
  • Reconfigure to man cam mode for cut aways.
  • Learn a variety of still and cinema style lenses with ND filtration.

Shane Hurlbut, ASC and The Elite Team have been pioneering leaders with this new technology and designed an HDSLR workflow system to shoot, "Act of Valor", a full-length feature about the Navy SEALS for Bandito Brothers and Legendary Pictures, and a variety of commercials and shorts.

What you get

Each participant should bring their own Canon camera or will be loaned one for the day. A gift UDMA CF card will be given to everyone to record their work as well as specific configurations. From there, the adventure begins …
